REVIEWS:
“Great bakery! I love their croissants, especially the almond one! The fillings inside and the crispy, buttery, sugary outside just work so well together! The Paris Brest and the apple tart were great too, though not as impressed as the croissants. Good service too! They have savory selections and a lot of other bread too. Will give it a try next time!” – Luna G.

Pophams Bakery – Islington
Pophams Bakery – Islington was born out of an idea to bring an innovative spin on traditional viennoiserie baking techniques. Ollie Gold, the founder, spent 7 years working in catering departments in various Formula 1 teams, traveling around the world, and learning about different cooking cultures in every place he visited. From their very first Bacon and Maple sold in their Prebend Street site, Pophams has evolved, so has its ever-changing menu. They are continuously trying out new flavor combinations and techniques, so they can keep our offering exciting.
A big shout out to all their regulars and first customers at Prebend Street, you’ve really been an important part of this journey for us. Pophams Bakery – Islington is a bakery, restaurant, and coffee shop using traditional methods to produce tasty, hand-crafted viennoiserie pastries and fresh pasta with a modern twist. Their coffee comes from local roasters and good friends Ozone.

Better Health Bakery
Better Health Bakery is a social welfare facility bakery based in Haggerston, East London. They are part of The Centre for Better Health, a long-standing Hackney-based mental health charity. As a Social Enterprise, they focus on providing work skills training placements for those who have been distanced from employment due to mental ill-health, while providing quality products and services to the local community. All the revenue they generate is put back into the Centre for Better Health to support the organization’s work.
They produce an Annual Report to share the results of their work at the charity but also that of Better Health Bikes next door and the Community Hub and Counselling services at their other site on Darnley Road, Hackney. They specialize in sourdough bread as the long fermentation method allows them to develop the best flavors and integrate their trainees into the process of bread production.

Luminary Bakery
Luminary Bakery is an innovative response to a need they saw for women who have had a social and economic disadvantage. They are a social enterprise designed to offer opportunities for women to build a future for themselves. They provide a safe and professional environment where women can grow holistically – encouraging ambition, restoration, and second chances. They use baking as a tool to take women on a journey to employment opportunities and entrepreneurship, equipping them with transferrable skills for the working world.
They offer courses, work experience, and paid employment within their bakery, empowering women to build their careers. In 2013 Luminary’s founder, Alice Williams, along with some friends, was working in a cafe in East London and through volunteering locally they met homeless women who were caught up in the sex industry. Women who had so much potential but had very few opportunities available to them.
